Some useful information to consider before contacting your GP about the Sheffield Minor Ailments Scheme and access to medicines that can be bought over the counter. 

Sheffield Minor Ailments Scheme

Your Community Pharmacist is a highly trained healthcare professional who can provide expert, confidential advice on common illnesses and provide effective over the counter medicines to treat them.

Many Community Pharmacies in Sheffield offer advice and treatment for minor ailments listed below via the Minor ailments scheme (MAS). If you are exempt from prescription charges, these treatments will be free. All Pharmacies have a consultation area where you can speak to the pharmacist privately. You don’t need an appointment and many are open during the evenings and weekends

Paracetamol, Over the counter medicines & Supplements

The cost to the NHS of prescribing medications that can be purchased inexpensively over the counter is enormous. For that reason paracetamol, cold remedies, muscle rubs, vitamin and mineral supplements such as vitamin D, and hay fever medication are no longer prescribed by your GP.
